trevnad-05 Row House

Social equality and human habitation today

Model of trevnad-05 row house

In collaboration with the students of Malmö Art Academy Lars Mikkelsen has developed a model called "Trevnad row house", which forms the basic for the realization of a building in later time.

The idea of a row house today

"trevnad-05" is a quite ambitous project. The initial objective is to chart the basis for "humane architecture" as it was realised in Sweden in the 1940s and 1950s. This period, and the political programme associated with it, is also known as "Folkhemmet" (literally "the People's Home") and was a time where ideals of social equality swept across the Swedish population. Similar ideals also affected Danish architecture, but on a much smaller scale.

The final objective of the project will be to prepare a model example of human architecture as it appears in 2005. This will involve the construction of a full-size dwelling, complete with furniture and technical installations. A fully functional ideal for contemporary living. The overall focus is placed on human needs, and the task will very much be one of technical innovation. Aesthetic concerns are by no means irrelevant; they simply take second place in the total list of priorities.
